PLA Midlands: A Newcomer Injunction for Newcomers

PLA Midlands: A Newcomer Injunction for Newcomers

The contexts in which there are activities of ‘direct action’ on land continue to increase.

In 2024, it was universities and airports which were the targeted locations. Katharine Holland KC, who obtained the first trespass injunction against persons unknown in 2003, will discuss how the principles set by the Supreme Court some 20 years later in Wolverhampton City Council and Others v London Gypsies and Travellers are being applied and adapted in emerging contexts. She will cover the new approach introduced by the Supreme Court in the gypsy and traveller context, the general nature of a ‘newcomer injunction’, the practical steps to be followed when preparing for such an injunction and the recent cases in which injunctions have been granted against ‘persons unknown’.

Registration is at 5.45pm for a 6.00pm prompt start. The session will finish at 7.00pm and be followed by networking drinks until 7.45pm.
